Town of Teulon

Geography

The Town of Teulon is a friendly, vibrant community nestled in the heart of Manitoba's Interlake Region. Incorporated as a village in 1919, Teulon has grown into a major centre for agriculture, with its economy diversifying to a large and varied commercial and industrial sector. Currently home to 1058 people, Teulon became a town in 1997.

History

Teulon began as a settlement for immigrant farmers in the late 1800's. The founding father of Teulon, Charles C. Castle, gave the town its name. Castle, an inspector with the Canadian Pacific Railway was instrumental in attracting the railway line to Teulon. Residents showed their appreciation to him by asking him to choose a name for the community. He graciously accepted and chose his wife's maiden name - Teulon.

The area is a mix of terrain and scenery. Farm fields and cattle pastures are interspersed with stands of aspen and poplar forests, and small wetland marsh areas. The area is an attractive habitat to many species of birds and animals.

Economic Base

Many of the local farmers and cattle producers rely on the community to supply needed supplies like machinery and crop inputs. Businesses in Teulon also provide a market for many crops produced on surrounding fields.

Rural residents turn to Teulon as a retail service centre. The town offers many businesses and services for residents and visitors alike.

Over the years, many small manufacturing and fabricating firms have established themselves, and help support a strong local economy.

Major Attractions

Teulon provides an exceptional quality of life to people of all ages. Citizens enjoy all the modern services and amenities of a larger community, in a quiet country setting.

If fun is what you are after, Teulon is a great place to begin. Just outside the community, the Teulon Golf and Country club is one of the finest and most challenging 18-hole courses in the province. Manicured greens and groomed fairways make a round of golf an enjoyable experience for all golfers. After the game, relax in the licensed clubhouse and dining room and enjoy a delicious meal. A full-time golf pro is always available to help you improve your game.

Teulon is home to Green Acres Park. This multi-use recreational facility boasts baseball diamonds, soccer fields, the Green Acres Art Centre, the Teulon and District Museum, rodeo grounds, a campground, a playground and concession stand. The park is the home field for the Teulon Cardinals Baseball Team, and has a 2.5 kilometre walking path.

For more winter activity, Teulon has an artificial ice hockey arena and an indoor curling rink with a viewing area and lounge. The Town is connected to a network of groomed snowmobile trails that are maintained by a number of Manitoba clubs.

The fields and marshes around Teulon are known for some great hunting opportunities. Hunters from Manitoba and from across North America come to the area each fall to hunt ducks, geese and white tailed deer.
